It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han

Summery: It used to be that Belly counted the days until summer, until she was back at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not after Susannah got sick again and Conrad stopped caring. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart, leaving Belly wishing summer would never come.
But when Jeremiah calls saying Conrad has disappeared, Belly knows what she must do to make things right again. And it can only happen back at the beach house, the three of them together, the way things used to be. If this summer really and truly is the last summer, it should end the way it started--at Cousins Beach (www.goodreads.com)

Review: I was definitely not expecting myself to love this book. I did a review on the first book in this series and you can tell I was not a big fan. The only reason I read this book was because I had read all the other books on my shelf and wanted to read something. I have to say I like Belly much more in this book because it felt like she was more mature and all the bad things that had happened to her over the year kind of changed her. This book was definitely much better than the first book in the series- which doesn't usually happen. I usually hate love triangles, but I have to say that it made this series much more interesting. I love Han's writing style because I could totally feel all the emotions that Belly was feeling. She also expresses whats going on in a teenage mind very well- the whole overwhelming emotions part. Belly was grieving a lot at the beginning over two losses and I felt that it made her character so much more deeper and not so...flat? I also loved Conrad's character even though he angered me at times. I could understand that his way of expressing his loss over Susannah was by pushing everyone else away and throughout the book his character unravels and you get glimpses of his true character.I also really liked Jeremiah, I mean how could you not? He was so sweet but I'm a sucker for the whole quiet and mysterious (in this case Conrad). Overall I loved this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone whose looking for a good chick lit.

The Summer I turned Pretty by Jenny Han
I think this book was the perfect beach read for me. It's a quick, pleasant read for a hot summer day. Belly-the main character- is your average teen girl but she got childish and annoying at times for me. Belly lives for summers because she gets to go to the beach house that she, her brother and mom share with Susannah and her 2 sons Conrad and Jeremiah. Belly has a huge crush on Conrad and this book mainly revolves on how much Belly loves Conrad. Conrad is your quite, mysterious, hot guy that's perfect for a chick lit. Through the book Belly matures with the boys she has known all her life. Jenny Han's writing is so easy and down to earth that it makes reading the book so easy and relaxing. The setting was described very well and I felt like I was at the beach house with Belly. It was a nice summer read but I wasn't too excited to read the sequel. I have read the next two books and I have to say that they were much better then this one. I will do a review when I get the time. Jenny Han is one of those authors whose writing progresses positively as she writes more books. I do recommend this to anyone whose looking for a quick and easy summer read. Jenny's writing kind of reminds me of Sarah Dessen, so if you're a fan I think you'll enjoy this.

Devoured By Amanda Marrone
They say not to judge a book by it's cover but I can't help it. The cover of this book caught my attention and so I picked it up. I read the prologue and it sounded fantastic, the prologue took place years ago and was a spin-off of Snow White. When I started to read the actual story, in my opinion it was boring. Megan is being hunted by her twin sister, Remy, who died in a car crash 10 years ago. I would say it started to pick up in the middle and I started to get into the book. The characters were nothing special and no one stood out to me accept Remy. It was not the most well written book but I enjoyed it as a quick read and wouldn't highly recommend it. Remy was creepy and always talking about brutal death, she was scary for such a young girl. I liked that it didn't have the happiest ending like most books because Megan did lose someone close to her. The ending was written nicely, but I didn't feel enough emotion. She does get her prince in the end and everything gets better. If your looking for something to pass your time with, this will do.

Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler
I read this book after a friend recommended it to me. I wasn't really expecting much from it because the summery on the back didn't really catch my attention. Surprisingly, I did end up liking it. Most chick lit books are based on romance and conflicts that most teens come across. This book does have it's fair share of romance, but it's main focus is on family relations. At first I couldn't really get into the book because couldn't relate to Del at all. When they got to Red Falls Del goes through loss, unexpected love and becomes close with her workaholic mother. Del discovers family secrets that broke her family apart 8 years ago and figures out why her mom continues to push her away. Del learns to forgive her mother, let go of the past and find herself. When she comes back from Red Falls she realizes that for once in her life she'd like to remember, rather than forget.
Quote from book: Del, "We all long for what could have been."

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares
I just finished reading this book and I have to say I loved it. My favourite character out the four friends was Carmen Lowell. She found a pair of jeans that fit all four of the girls despite their different sizes. They decided to call the jeans the "travelling pants". Carmen's best friends are Lena Kaligaris, Tibby Rollins and Bridget Vreeland. They decide to share the travelling pants over the course of the summer. The characters were very easy to relate to because of their age (high school sophomores). I liked Carmen the most because she wasn't perfect and her personality was closest to mine. Lena annoyed me at times, like her immediate reaction to push Kostos away. Yes, she had her reasons but she didn't even give him a chance at the beginning. Tibby was my second favourite character. She had to stay home for the summer working for Duncan Howe at Wallman's. In my opinion she was the most down to earth and realistic. She went through a lot in this book and I felt her emotion. I liked Bridget but I could relate to her the least. She's impulsive, goal oriented, and is used to getting what she wants. She's basically the opposite of me. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed her parts in the book and how she overcame anything that was in her way. I thought she was the least realistic until the end when she had to face the consequences of her impulsive actions. Overall, I really liked this book and am looking forward to reading The Second Summer of the Sisterhood. I really think this book showed how strong true friendship can be.
Quote from book: Tibby, " Well, maybe sometimes it's easier to be mad at the people you trust."
Carmen, "Why? Why is that?" Tibby, "Because you know they'll always love you, no matter what."
